What is estate planning?
At its simplest, an estate plan is a set of instructions for the people you trust.
It helps answer important questions like:
Who manages things if I can't?
Who receives what I leave behind?
Who cares for my children?
Who can make financial or healthcare decisions for me?
A comprehensive estate plan may include a Will, Revocable Trust, Power of Attorney and Healthcare Directive—each designed to do a different job.
WHO is Estate Planning For?
One of the biggest misconceptions we hear is:
"I don't have enough money to need a trust."
Estate planning isn't just for wealthy families, business owners, or people with large estates.
If you simply want a say in who manages your affairs if something happens to you, estate planning deserves a place in your financial plan.
It's less about how much you have and more about protecting the people you love and providing clear instructions for what you do have.
Why a Trust Instead of Just a Will?
A Will is important—but it doesn't necessarily keep your estate out of probate.
A properly established and funded Revocable Trust may allow certain assets held by the Trust to pass according to its terms outside of probate.
A Will generally provides instructions for the distribution of assets and can address matters such as guardianship, but it may not avoid probate or provide the same ongoing management framework as a properly established Trust. Think of the Trust as the roadmap for how certain assets should be managed.
But creating the roadmap isn't enough. Your assets need to be properly aligned with it.
That's why we don't stop when the documents are signed.
HOW Does It Work?
MEETING 1 | BUILD THE FOUNDATION
We start with a conversation. We'll explain the process, discuss your wishes, and help you understand the people and roles involved—from trustees and beneficiaries to executors, guardians and powers of attorney.
MEETING 2 | BUILD YOUR ESTATE PLAN
Together, we’ll work through Wealth.com’s estate planning experience to help you organize your wishes and complete the preparation of your core documents through Wealth.com.
MEETING 3 | FUND YOUR TRUST
Documents are only part of the job. Next, we'll help you understand how your assets should coordinate with your estate plan, including ownership and beneficiary designations where appropriate. The goal is to make administration as clear and seamless as possible for the people you've entrusted to carry out your wishes.
MEETING 4 | BRING YOUR PEOPLE INTO THE PLAN
An estate plan works best when the right people know they have a role. We'll help you communicate with the people you've chosen so they understand what's expected of them and where to turn if the day comes when they need help.
Estate Planning doesn't have to feel overwhelming.
You don't need an eight-figure net worth. You don't need to figure it out alone. You need a guide to walk you through the process.
If you've been putting off your estate plan because you weren't sure what you needed or how the process worked, we'd be happy to help you take that first step.
